The course is a mixture of theory and practical work. You will learn about health & safety and regulations in the workplace, an extensive range of practical skills, and subject knowledge across biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as have the opportunity to discuss and research the broader impacts of science on the world and our community.
The BTEC has a flexible, unit-based structure, and knowledge is applied in project-based assessments and exams. You will develop the practical, interpersonal, and thinking skills required to succeed in employment and higher education. Students will learn laboratory techniques and regulations to prepare them for the workplace. Where possible, staff will identify local industry and university opportunities to see working laboratories in practice and guest speakers to talk to students about natural working environments.
At least five subjects at grade C/4, including English Language and Mathematics, plus 2 Sciences at grade 4 or above.
