Course Overview

Our Graduate Diploma in Japanese Studies is designed to develop your Japanese language skills and increase your knowledge of Japanese culture, as well as improving your research and study skills. The course will help you gain fluency in the Japanese language and a critical understanding of Japanese culture and society. It is ideal if you wish to expand your knowledge of Japanese and Japanese culture in preparation for a Master's degree. It is also aimed at those who do not have a BA honors qualification in Japanese studies or those with a qualification at, or near, BA level. This is an undergraduate-level qualification that will prepare you for postgraduate study. Graduate Certificates/Diplomas typically take one to two years to complete and are made up of two, three, or four modules at final-year undergraduate degree level (worth 60, 90, or 120 credits). Graduates can pursue careers in journalism, the media, or public relations. Possible professions include broadcast/newspaper journalist, press sub-editor, or publishing copy-editor/proofreader. Graduates will be well equipped to enter a range of work environments, from newspapers and online journalism to magazines and trade publications. This degree may also be useful in becoming a public relations officer, market researcher, or writer.

General Eligibility

A second-class honors degree (2:2) or above in any related subject; other qualifications will be considered. Applications are encouraged from those with prior journalistic experience.
