Course Overview

The Postgraduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics at Aston University is a distance learning course that has been written, taught, and assessed by specialist mental health pharmacists. This qualification is often a requirement for specialist clinical mental health positions in the NHS and this course is accredited by the College of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP). This course is the first stage for pharmacists in becoming specialist mental health pharmacists. It is also undertaken by mental health nurses to increase their knowledge base especially those practicing or intending to practice as non-medical prescribers. General practitioners and psychiatrists, as well as graduates working in the pharmaceutical industry, have also taken this course.

General Eligibility

A good honors degree (minimum lower 2nd class) from a recognized university in a relevant subject. We welcome applications from candidates interested in our course who have the skills and capability to excel. All candidates are considered on an individual basis based on their qualifications, experience, references, and motivation. Applicants would usually possess a good honors degree (minimum lower 2nd class) from a recognized university in one of the following subjects (or an equivalent qualification as agreed with the Programme Director; Pharmacy Technicians without a degree but with extensive relevant experience will also be considered): 1. Pharmacy 2. Medicine 3. Nursing.

  • IELTS Overall 6.5, Reading, Writing Listening, Speaking 6.0 Financial requirement You’ll need to show you have enough money to support yourself - unless you’ve been in the UK with a valid visa for at least 12 months on the date of your application. How much money you need depends on where you will be studying. You’ll need either: £1,334 per month (for up to 9 months) for courses outside London £1,023 per month (for up to 9 months) for courses inside London If you’re applying for the Doctorate Extension Scheme, and you’ve been in the UK for less than 12 months, you need to prove you have a total of £2,668 for courses in London, or a total of £2,046 for courses outside London. If you’re boarding at a residential independent school, you’ll need to pay boarding fees instead. The amount you need to pay will be on your CAS. London means the City of London and the 32 London boroughs.
