Our flexible Optometry / Ophthalmic Science MSc has been designed for those working in full-time professional practice who want to develop their expertise and gain specialist knowledge while continuing to work. Weve been ranked 3rd in the UK for research quality (Ophthalmics, Complete University Guide, 2021) and are home to multiple research groups including: Ophthalmic Technology and Devices Research Centre Ocular Disease and Vascular Research Physiological and Optics Research Specialist Services Research We also have the on-campus Aston Eye Clinic which provides eye examinations and sight tests, along with a range of specialist clinics run by our staff including Childrens and Binocular Vision Clinic, Dry Eye Clinic, and Low Vision Clinic.

General Eligibility

Minimum upper 2nd class (2:1) honors degree in an ophthalmic or biomedical field from a UK university or the recognized equivalent from an overseas university. Must have spent at least two years in clinical practice before entering the course.

  • IELTS Overall 6.5, Reading, Writing Listening, Speaking 6.0 Financial requirement You’ll need to show you have enough money to support yourself - unless you’ve been in the UK with a valid visa for at least 12 months on the date of your application. How much money you need depends on where you will be studying. You’ll need either: £1,334 per month (for up to 9 months) for courses outside London £1,023 per month (for up to 9 months) for courses inside London If you’re applying for the Doctorate Extension Scheme, and you’ve been in the UK for less than 12 months, you need to prove you have a total of £2,668 for courses in London, or a total of £2,046 for courses outside London. If you’re boarding at a residential independent school, you’ll need to pay boarding fees instead. The amount you need to pay will be on your CAS. London means the City of London and the 32 London boroughs.
