Course Overview

Electrical & Electronic Engineering is a fascinating field that could make your time at university a challenging, enriching, and rewarding experience.

During your studies, you will develop the ability to analyze electronic and electrical engineering systems, designs, processes, and products, use computer-aided engineering tools and design techniques, and learn how to apply management and business concepts.

Industrial employers are increasingly seeking graduates for managerial and professional level positions; This MEng course will provide you with the specialist skills for a successful electronic and electrical engineering career.

In year one, the course focuses on learning engineering principles and practices, as well as computing skills and design principles relating to various engineering disciplines.

You will then progress to further develop knowledge in the principles of the field and engineering management. Finally, you will implement practical solutions across various applications and build your skills in lateral problem-solving and innovative thinking.

General Eligibility

Our entry requirements indicate standard and Minimum qualifications with which we usually accept students. Competition for places varies yearly, and you aren't guaranteed a business if you meet the minimum qualifications.

Advanced entry

Advanced entry into Year 2, Year 3, or Year 4 is possible for students with suitable qualifications.

Minimum Year 1

SQA Higher

Standard Entry Requirement

ABB including Maths and a Science (excluding Biology) or Technical Subject*

National 5 Grade C in English.

Minimum Offer Entry Requirement

BBBC including Maths and Science (excluding Biology) or Technical Subject*. Please note that a minimum grade of B must be achieved in each required subject.

National 5 grade C in English.

A Level

BCC including Maths and a Science (excluding Biology) or Technical Subject*

GCSE Grade C/4 in English.

Irish Leaving Certificate

H2, H2, H2, H3 at HL including Maths + a Science (excluding Biology) or Technical Subject*

OL English at O4.

International Baccalaureate Diploma

Award of Diploma with 29 points overall with three HL subjects at grades 6,5,5, including a Science (excluding Biology) or Technical Subject*.

Grade 5 in SL Maths and grade 4 in SL English.

T-Level 

Grade Merit

T Level must be completed in an Engineering subject or include Science (not Biology) and Maths components. Alternatively, Level Maths and Science (not Biology) would be required.

GCSE Grade C/4 in English.

BTEC (QCF) Extended Diploma Level 3

DMM (Distinction, Merit, Merit) in a related subject (Maths/Science – must include A Level Maths or equivalent)

GCSE English at C/4. 

Technical subjects accepted

*Physics, Engineering Science, Design & Manufacture, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Graphic Communication, Computing Science, Design & Technology.

Minimum Year 2

SQA Advanced Higher

BBB including Maths and Science (excluding Biology) or Technical Subject*.

National 5 Grade C in English.

HNC

Pass HNC in a relevant subject with a Grade A in the graded unit.

Minimum Year 3

HND

Pass HND in a relevant subject with Grade A at SCQF Level 8 in all graded units.

Must include passes in the modules Engineering Maths 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Irish Ordinary Degree

Pass in a relevant subject with 60% overall, with a minimum of 50% at first sitting in all final year subjects.

Minimum Year 4

Irish Ordinary Degree

Pass in a relevant subject with 70% overall, with a minimum of 50% at first sitting in all final year subjects.
