This innovative degree combines the study of creative writing with modern languages, providing students with a unique skill set that will open doors to a wide range of career opportunities. Students will learn how to craft compelling narratives in both English and French, as well as develop their translation skills and cultural knowledge. Graduates of this program will be well-equipped to pursue careers in writing, publishing, journalism, marketing, and international business.
Students have the opportunity to study abroad for a semester through Bangor University's exchange programs, gaining valuable cultural experience and broadening their horizons. This degree course will enable you to develop a personal creative practice as a writer, offering imaginative approaches in a variety of forms, while gaining skills and critical insights in modern languages and cultures. It offers an exploration of the techniques and contexts of the novel, the short story, poetry, and writing for performance and media. You will be taught by research experts and published writers.
Our cross-disciplinary Creative Writing and Modern Languages degree will give you to opportunity to learn about the cultures and societies of the countries in which your chosen language is spoken, whilst also helping you to hone you own creative voice as a writer. You use the degree as an opportunity to try out new languages (you might want to specialise in more than one), but also to try out different literary genres, whether fiction or non-fiction.

For the Creative Writing part of your degree, you will have small seminars, lectures, and workshops, plus classes in your Modern Languages optional modules, where tuition is also in small groups and formal lectures. Assessment involves coursework and written and oral examinations.In addition to what takes place in the classroom, there are lots of exciting opportunities for you to boost your skills and knowledge. We regularly run theatre trips, film showings, gallery visits, and each month there is the chance to hear visiting creative writers. Bangor also hosts the LangSoc and LitSoc, our student-run societies for students who are passionate about languages and literatures, which together run a variety of cultural and social events.

If you do not meet the English Language requirements to enter the International Incorporated Bachelors or the International Incorporated Masters, BUIC offers you a range of Pre-sessional English Programmes which you can take before you start these courses.
If you have an IELTS of 5.0 (with no component below 4.5), you will be offered a 6-week Pre-sessional English course immediately preceding your entry to the IYZ.
If you have an IELTS of 4.5 (with no component below 4.0), you will be offered a 12-week Pre-Sessional English course immediately preceding your entry to the IYZ.
