This course provides an in-depth understanding of intellectual property law and its practical applications. Students will learn how to identify, protect, and exploit intellectual property rights, as well as the legal frameworks that govern these rights. The course is designed for individuals seeking to advance their careers in IP law, including lawyers, patent attorneys, and entrepreneurs.
This course is designed to be completed part-time over 6 months. Students will attend a combination of lectures, workshops, and seminars, as well as engage in individual research and project work. The course is delivered by experienced academics and practitioners in the field of IP law.

Obtain full exemptions from the foundation level examinations for qualification as a patent attorney or trademark attorney in the UK (IPReg/CIPA/CITMA)
Have the option to follow the patent attorney or trademark attorney path (please indicate on your application)
You can complete this course while in full-time employment; their employers sponsor more than 80% of our students.
Suppose you do not have prior legal knowledge. In that case, you will be supported by various online activities relating to foundational law principles (such as the English legal system, contract law, and tort).
A bachelor's Honours degree with 2:2 in any subject or appropriate training and experience.
20 hours per week
Patents & Designs: This unit will enable you to understand the legal regimes governing Patents and Designs. It will continue to update your knowledge of the law and apply legislation and judicial decisions to situations that may arise in the workplace. You will learn to use knowledge of prevailing Patents and Designs law to maximum advantage.
Copyright & Trademarks: During this unit, you will develop a systematic understanding of the legal regimes governing Copyright and Trademarks. It will continue to update your knowledge of relevant UK, European and International law and enable you to independently apply legislation and judicial decisions to novel situations that may arise in a commercial context.
Choose one of the following option units:
International Intellectual Property Practice (Patent Attorney Route)
International Intellectual Property Practice (TradeMark Attorney Route)
A standard syllabus for these two units focuses on the national and international procedures for securing and defending patent and trademark rights. If you choose the patent route, you'd have an additional taught component on patent drafting. For the trademark route, you'll cover competition-related provisions. Leading practitioners teach both units.
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in writing, speaking, listening, and reading, or equivalent.
