BSc (Hons) Midwifery

The BSc (Hons) Midwifery course at Bournemouth University is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to become a registered midwife. The course covers a wide range of topics including antenatal and postnatal care, childbirth, breastfeeding, and neonatal care. Students will also learn about the latest research and evidence in midwifery practice, as well as how to apply this knowledge in real-world scenarios. With a focus on practical skills and hands-on experience, this course prepares students for a successful career in midwifery.

Additional Information

The course is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, and placements. Students will have the opportunity to observe and participate in midwifery care during their placements, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Graduates of this course are eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a midwife.

• With a strong emphasis on women-centered care, the course offers an equal balance of theory and practice

• 50% of the system will be spent in practice placements, in community and hospital settings, where you’ll learn from your interactions with women, families, midwives, and other health professionals

• You’ll be introduced to new equipment and skills in our simulation facilities, including a birthing suite, where you can familiarise yourself with techniques before going into practice

• Learn from experienced and knowledgeable registered midwives and other healthcare practitioners.

• Within fifteen months of finishing the course, 100% of our students are in work or further study.

This course requires 128–144 UCAS tariff points to include a minimum of two A-levels or equivalent, including 32 points in a required subject. However, we are happy to consider a combination of qualifications and grades to meet the overall tariff, for example, A-levels A*A*C, AAA, A*BC or ABB, BTECs DDD or DDM in a required subject.
