Training to become an English teacher allows you to share your passion for the subject, inspiring and shaping the lives of your students.
Teaching English at the Secondary level allows you to share your passion for your degree subject, open the hearts and minds of your students to new experiences and develop in them a love of language and literature. You’ll also build their critical literacy skills, such as reading, writing, talking and listening, which play an integral role in learning across the curriculum.
Degree requirements
An ordinary degree or international equivalent.
Degree must include:
At least 80 SCQF credits in English. 40 of these SCQF credits should come from at least one of the following subjects:
English literature (this can include English Translation of original foreign language texts)
Scottish literature
a maximum of 20 SCQF credit points in media studies
Maths & English
Higher (SCQF Level 6) English Grade C or above
National 5 (SCQF Level 5) Mathematics Grade C or above
20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
IELTS 6.5 (no individual test score below 5.5)
