This course is designed for students who want to become mathematics teachers in secondary schools. It provides a comprehensive education in mathematics, as well as the knowledge and skills required to teach mathematics effectively. Students will learn how to plan, deliver, and assess math lessons, as well as how to create engaging and interactive learning experiences. Throughout the course, students will also develop their understanding of the theoretical foundations of mathematics teaching and learning, including cognitive psychology and instructional design. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to take on the challenges of teaching mathematics in a secondary school setting.
This course is approved by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) and leads to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Graduates of this course will be eligible to register with the Department for Education as a mathematics teacher. The course includes a mix of lectures, seminars, workshops, and practical teaching experiences.

The vast majority of our students go into employment as qualified teachers following the course. There are a number of study options available to former students of this course at Canterbury Christ Church University during the Early Career Teacher (ECT) phase and beyond, which lead to Master's degrees in Education.
