Course Overview

Studying this course will give you a comprehensive understanding of digital media and interaction design's role in our lives, exploring how people use and respond to emerging technology and media.

You'll be equipped with adaptable practical and theoretical skills to design for current and future trends, whether creating for screen-based media, interactive experiences, or physical computing.

During your studies, you will be supported to create a portfolio of work, link with industry, and undertake optional work placement or study abroad options. We use industry-standard packages in specialist Mac and PC labs.

This course has been designed to facilitate advanced entry opportunities for Arts based College Diplomas in areas such as Computer Arts & Design, Visual Design, and Digital Media.

General Eligibility

Our entry requirements indicate standard and Minimum qualifications with which we usually accept students. However, competition for places varies yearly, and you aren't guaranteed a business if you meet the minimum qualifications.

SQA Higher

Standard Entry Requirement

BBBB to include one of the following subjects: Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media or Graphic Communication

National 5 Grade C in English.

Minimum Offer Entry Requirement

BBCC to include one of the following subjects: Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media, Graphic Communication, or Design and Manufacture

National 5 grade C in English.

A Level

BCC to include one of the following subjects: Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media or Graphic Communication/Moving Image Arts

GCSE Grade C/4 in English.

Irish Leaving Certificate

H2, H2, H3, H3 at Higher Level to include one of the following subjects: Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media or Graphic Communication

Ordinary Level  English at O4.

Scottish HNC

HNC with C in the graded unit in one of the following; Computer Arts and Design, Audio Visual Technologies, Art Design & Visual Communications, Computer Art and Design and Interactive Design, Digital Design and Web Development

Unrelated HNC/Ds may be considered and, in addition, have Higher Design subject at grade B National 5 C in Maths and English.

BTEC (QCF) Extended Diploma Level 3

Minimum grades DMM (Distinction, Merit, Merit) in a related subject

GCSE Grade C/4 in English.

BTEC National Diploma Level 3

Minimum grades D*D (Distinction*, Distinction) in a related subject

GCSE Grade C/4 in English.

International Baccalaureate Diploma

Award of Diploma with 28 points overall with three HL subjects at grades 6, 5, and 4 to include one of the following subjects: Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media or Graphic Communication at minimum grade 5.

Grade 4 in SL English.

European Baccalaureate

Pass at 70% or above with grade 7 in three subjects to include one of the following subjects: Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media, or Graphic Communication.

Grade 6 in English.

T Levels

Merit - T Level with additional A Level in Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media, Graphic Communication, Moving Image Arts grade B 

GCSE Maths and English grade C/4

Minimum year 2

HNC

HNC - Pass in Computer Arts and Design, Audio Visual Technologies, Art Design & Visual Communication, Computer Art and Design, Interactive Design, Digital Design and Web Development, and Animation with a B in the graded unit.

SQA Advanced Higher

BBC to include at least one of Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media, or Graphic Communication.

A Level

BBB to include at least one of Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media, or Graphic Communication.

BTEC (QCF) Extended Diploma Level 3

Minimum grades DDD (Distinction, Distinction, Distinction) in a related subject.

Minimum year 3

HND

HND - Pass in Computer Arts and Design, Audio Visual Technologies, Computer Art and Design, Interactive Design, Visual Communications (Digital Media), Visual Communications (Animation), and 3D Animation with grades B in the SCQF Level 8 graded unit. 

For HND Visual Communication: User Experience Design OR Digital Design and Development (grades B in the SCQF Level 8 graded unit), applicants would also require a Higher grade C in at least one of the following subjects: Design, Art & Design, Music, Photography, Media or Graphic Communication. Those without a relevant Higher may have the opportunity to submit a portfolio.

    Cambridge C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE))

    169 overall, with a minimum of 162 in each component

    Cambridge B2 First (formerly Cambridge English First (FCE))

    169 overall, with a minimum of 162 in each component

    Cambridge C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English Advanced (CAE))

    169 overall, with a minimum of 162 in each component

    Trinity Integrated Skills Test (ISE)

    ISE III, ISE III, & ISE IV with a pass in each component

    B2 Communicator Test with an overall 39 or above and 25 or above in all skills
