The government is planning changes to the NQT transition period from one year to two years. This will be introduced nationally but will operate in some areas of the country (e.g. the North East, Greater Manchester, and South and West Yorkshire) from September 2020. Following the achievement of QTS, therefore, all of you entering into a job as an NQT, or in the aforementioned regions from 2020, will be entitled to a 2-year package of ongoing training and support as an NQT. These entitlements are enshrined in the recently published Early Career Framework and the government has promised additional funding and mentoring support for new entrants to the profession who are entitled to this 2-year NQT program. As a university committed to the ongoing training and professional development of new teachers, we are aligning our new Level 7 Masters programs to the Early Career Framework and would be keen to continue to support schools and NQTs in the next phases of their careers.
