PGCE Primary and Early Years (part time)

The PGCE Primary and Early Years program at Bath Spa University is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to become an effective teacher in primary schools. Our part-time program is flexible and designed to fit around your existing commitments, allowing you to study while continuing to work. You'll gain a deep understanding of how children learn and develop, and develop the skills to create engaging and inspiring learning experiences. With a focus on practical teaching methods and real-world application, you'll be prepared for a rewarding career in primary education.

Additional Information

The program consists of 60 credits, including 40 credits of taught modules and 20 credits of project work. You'll have the opportunity to specialize in either primary or early years education, or choose to study both. Our experienced teaching staff are passionate about education and dedicated to supporting your professional development. Upon completion of the program, you'll be recommended for QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and prepared to embark on a rewarding career in primary education.

While you’re a Bath Spa Teacher, you'll explore models of teaching that will develop your understanding of the many ways in which children learn. Emphasis is placed on how parents and carers, families, schools, and communities are key to children’s learning and well-being.

When you complete your initial teacher training, you'll be fully qualified to teach. This part-time course is designed to ensure that you graduate as an exceptional teacher, able to confidently and successfully join the teaching profession and be a valued member of the educational community.

Recognised Bachelor's degree or higher and evidence of two years of work experience; or successful completion of equivalent courses; or satisfactory preparation for the course through informal or non-formal learning and/or professional experiences subject to the approval of the Academic Chair
