Course Overview

The general purpose of the occupation is to produce complex, high-value, low-volume components or assemblies in whole or part, using machines, equipment, or systems to the required specification—for example, turbines, cranes, gearboxes, production lines, rigs, and platforms. Fitters may typically have mechanical, electrical, electronic, control systems, pipe fitting, or instrumentation bias or operate across multiple disciplines depending on the assembly type. To produce or re-furbish the components, fitters will interpret drawings/specifications and plan their work, ensuring they have the right tools, equipment, and resources to complete the task to the required specification. Fitters must check their work against quality standards and make adjustments based on their knowledge. On completion of the study, a fitter will hand over the product and prepare the work area for the next job by checking equipment meets the standards required to operate. They may be based in a workshop or client premises, including hazardous environments.

General Eligibility

• Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 (or above), including Level 2 or GCSE C/4 or above in English, Maths, and Science.

• If an Apprentice has not already achieved Level 2 (GCSE C/4 or above) English & Maths, they must: -Study for and gain Functional Skills Level 2 English & Maths.

• Initial Assessment on enrolment Level 2 Maths & English
