Course Overview

The course is designed to support, stimulate and develop the emerging Secondary Geography teacher. The main areas of focus will assist in the development of reflective, professional, practitioners eager to engage, contribute and lead in school-based learning for children and young adults. Trainees will demonstrate:

confidence and enthusiasm that engages and inspires.

an understanding of the best practice and a growing repertoire of effective learning and teaching methods.

a value of and commitment to collaborative learning.

a recognition of assessment as a key to successful learning; and the development of a range of effective approaches, strategies, and techniques that engage and stimulate the learner.

an understanding of the place and purpose of the subject within the curriculum today, securely knowing why it is relevant to young people.

a wide range of teaching skills being applied in contrasting settings, showing adaptability and flexibility.

The course is designed to ensure you are confident in all basic national curriculum requirements.

We provide access to part-time jobs, and extra-curricular employability-enhancing workshops and offer practical one-to-one help with career planning, including help with CVs, applications, and mock interviews. We also deliver group sessions on career planning within each course and we have a wide range of extensive information covering graduate jobs and postgraduate study.

Students and graduates of the University of Chester can use our services free of charge for up to two years after graduating.

General Eligibility

Applicants will normally:

  • hold or be expected to gain a minimum 2:1 honors degree

  • have GCSE grade C/grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths.

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
