Course Overview

Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a variety of surgical theatre specialties. You’ll gain high-quality clinical skills in anesthetic, surgical, and post-operative/anesthetic care.

Designed in collaboration with local NHS trusts and private healthcare providers, this course has a strong clinical focus – to meet the growing demand for ODPs both locally and nationally.

We also offer an Operating Department Practice (Apprentice) BSc course.

General Eligibility

Points can be from any qualifications on the UCAS tariff but must include at least 80 points from

  • A levels

  • BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma, or Extended Diploma

  • OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma, Diploma, or Extended Diploma

  • CACHE Diploma or Extended Diploma

  • Irish Leaving Certificate

  • Scottish Highers

  • Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma

  • or a combination of appropriate Level 3 qualifications

Applicants should also have

  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 or C or above

  • Must have reached the age of 18 by the start of the program

Alternative qualifications

  • IB Diploma: 28 points.

  • Pass Access to HE Diploma overall with a minimum of 112 UCAS tariff points.

  • Advanced Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care plus an A level at grade C (or 32 Tariff points) or above, plus GCSE English and Maths at grade C or equivalent alternatives

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, plus completion of the University Study Skills module at level 4 (20 Credits)

  • Alternative Maths – Functional Skills L2 Maths

  • University of Hull Certificate in Practice Skills for Health and Social Care (60 credits at Level 4 in appropriate subjects)

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • IELTS 7.0 overall, with no less than 6.5 in each skill.
