Course Overview

This innovative course will train you to become a 21st-century teacher while also encouraging you to explore the rich creative potential of English – found in areas such as creative writing and performance – and use it to enhance your teaching and inspire your pupils.

Learn the theoretical underpinnings of English you need to teach through exploring the main genres of creative writing (poetry, prose, drama and media) as well as developing your understanding of modern and Shakespearian theatre studies. You study a diverse range of literature from the medieval period to the present day, learning to apply techniques of textual criticism and different theoretical approaches.

Alongside this element of the course, there are units focused on your development as a teacher, exploring how children learn and develop, and introducing you to the latest technologies used in teaching. You also benefit from school placement experience throughout the course that will enable you to gain Qualified Teacher Status when you graduate.
