A Physics degree from Keele will prepare you for many different careers, which need not be directly related to physics. You could take up all sorts of roles in industry, management, and public services. You might work as a research scientist, medical physicist, software engineer, geophysicist, or radiation practitioner, or you might branch out and become a science writer, chartered accountant, patent lawyer, IT consultant, or air traffic, controller. Many graduates go on to study at the masters or doctorate level. A Mathematics and Physics degree is a springboard for many careers. You will have gained a broad base of scientific and mathematical knowledge together with much-valued versatility in problem-solving and quantitative reasoning. This course provides the solid background needed for scientific research, engineering, industry, management, software development, health, and teaching. In recent years both mathematicians and physicists have been recruited in the financial sector. Employment as a science writer, chartered accountant, or IT consultant is another possible route. Many of our graduates go on to further study, either a Masters or Ph.D. level.
