Course Overview

Modern living demands sustained and significant human interaction with the Earth. The resources we use, such as minerals, hydrocarbons, water, metals, and stone are all geological in nature, and their extraction and use all impact the environment. Environmental Geologists play a key role in societys development, they are equipped to find and understand natural resources but also to identify and resolve the environmental impact of activities related to the extraction and use of those resources. Environmental Geologists work in a range of sectors not limited to, geological, geophysical, and environmental consultancies, resource management and exploration, hydrogeology, carbon sequestration, governmental/policy consultancy, and urban and rural planning. Whatever career plan you have in mind you will acquire a wide range of transferable skills, including data acquisition and analysis, communication, problem-solving and dissemination skills, the ability to conceptualize and conduct research projects and gather and critique data from a range of sources.
