BA (Hons) Education Studies with Foundation Year

This foundation year is designed to prepare students for undergraduate study in education. It provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of education, including its historical, philosophical and sociological contexts. Students will develop a critical understanding of the complex issues involved in teaching and learning, as well as the skills necessary to become an effective teacher. The course is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and practical teaching experiences.

This programme is ideal for students who are interested in pursuing a career in education, but may not have the traditional academic qualifications or experience. This course is offered as a four-year program, including an initial Foundation Year. The Foundation Year will allow you to develop your academic study skills and build confidence in your abilities, identifying your own strengths and development needs for progression onto an undergraduate degree. The course provides a broad-based educational curriculum aimed at those wishing to pursue a number of possible career routes including teacher training (through School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) or Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)); social or community work, psychology, community, and adult education, educational administration, policy, museum or heritage roles, charity, and international development work. It is an ideal program for those wishing to keep their career options flexible across a range of education sectors.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for our three-year programs, or those who do not feel fully prepared for first-year entry, can be considered for the four-year program including a foundation year. Applicants to these will have typically achieved between 32-56 UCAS tariff points.
